Parish & Ward Church of St. Botolph without Bishopsgate

Farewell to the Bishop of London, 2 February

Members of St Botolph's joined congregations and clergy from across the Diocese of London and beyond to pack St Paul's Cathedral (and a complementary 'pop up Cathedral' outside in Paternoster Square) to say thank you and farewell to The Rt Revd Dr Richard Chartres as he comes to the end of his 21 years of service as Bishop of London. The service took the form of a Candlemas Eucharist - there was a wonderful effect when thousands of candles were simultaneously raised to be blessed as the Cathedral lights were dramatically dimmed.
There is a full report of the service on the Diocesan website:

Arrangements for the service had been masterminded by the Archdeacon of London (our Priest-in-Charge), who helped to lead worship in Paternoster Square but appeared inside the Cathedral towards the end of the service in time to make a presentation to the Bishop of a portrait of his predecessor Bishop William Juxon.
