Infected Blood Scandal

We at St Botolph’s welcome the news that around 4,000 UK victims of the infected blood scandal are to receive interim compensation of £100,000 each from the government.

St Botolph’s is home to the national memorial to those who have died from receiving infected blood products.  Each October, with the Haemophilia Society, we hold the very moving Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for all those people with inherited bleeding disorders who have died due to their treatment.  The national memorial is in the form of a contemporary icon of St Luke, the physician with a role of remembrance below.

In welcoming the news of interim compensation, we are conscious that there are many people, such as bereaved parents, who will miss out.
