Passiontide Message

Dear Friend of St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate,

We find ourselves at the start of Passiontide in the run up to Holy Week and Easter.  Last year in Holy Week all our churches were closed due to the pandemic.  For the first time in centuries the Liturgy of Christ’s Passion did not take place in our holy places.  I am pleased to say that this year we are once again open.

At St Botolph’s during Holy Week there will be an opportunity each day from Monday to Thursday to take Communion.  We will be holding a Said Mass on Monday and Tuesday at 1.10pm and at 8.10am on Wednesday.  On Wednesday lunchtime, at 1.10pm we will have a service of reflection on the Cross with the choir singing a selection of pieces from Pergolesi’s stunning Stabat Mater.  We will have the Liturgy of Maundy Thursday at 1.10pm on 1 April.  The Church will be closed on Good Friday.

If you are able to join us at any of our services, we look forward to welcoming you.  If, however, you are unable to be here in person, all the services will be livestreamed on our website and available there to view whenever you wish.

The theme in our services throughout this Lent has been Searching for Certainty.  As we prepare to commemorate the Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of our Lord, I pray that you find true certainty in our faith, and that you know in an uncertain world one thing is rock-solid.  That is God’s love for us.  In anticipation, I wish you and all those whom you love a Happy Easter and a goodly share in God’s Grace,

With God’s love and blessing,
