William Byrd 400th anniversary

Yesterday, 4 July, was the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd, one of Britain’s – and the Renaissance’s – greatest composers. St Botolph’s musicians pay tribute to him at today’s Choral Mass by singing his Mass for five voices; the organ voluntary is also by Byrd, and the hymns are all by Byrd’s contemporary Orlando Gibbons.
