St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate will hold a Choral Requiem in thanksgiving for the life and service of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022 On Wednesday 14 September 2022 at 1.10 pm This service will be live streamed and also available afterwards on our website On the day of the Late Queen’s funeral, Monday 19 September, the church will be closed all day
Reintroducing our 8.10am Morning Mass
New Service Times Mass on Thursday 1 September will be at 1.10 pm. but as we move further away from the days of Covid restrictions, we are returning to a more usual schedule of Masses at St Botolph’s. From the week of 5 September we are reintroducing our 8.10am Mass in the Lady Chapel. Tuesday and Thursday Masses will revert to 12.10pm, whilst our main Choral Mass on Wednesday will remain at 1.10pm. As always, everyone is welcome. The lunchtime Masses
Infected Blood Scandal
We at St Botolph’s welcome the news that around 4,000 UK victims of the infected blood scandal are to receive interim compensation of £100,000 each from the government. St Botolph’s is home to the national memorial to those who have died from receiving infected blood products. Each October, with the Haemophilia Society, we hold the very moving Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for all those people with inherited bleeding disorders who have died due to their treatment. Advent Theme “The Gift”
Our theme for this Advent is ‘The Gift’. We will be associating the theme of ‘The Gift’ with the theme, in Christian tradition, allotted to each week of Advent: the Patriarchs, the Prophets, John the Baptist, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this order we will be thinking of the Gift of Heritage, the Gift of Prophecy, the Gift of Humility, and the Gift of Obedience. All Souls service
Next Wednesday, 3 November, we hold our annual All Souls service when we remember our loved ones who have gone before us. The music at the Choral Requiem Mass at 1.10 pm will be the Missa Defunctorum by Viadana. As usual this service will include a special Act of Commemoration during which the names of the departed will be solemnly read aloud, and relatives and friends are encouraged to come forward and light candles in their memory.
